One of the biggest advantages of eSIM is dual SIM functionality — using your physical SIM and eSIM simultaneously. Here is exactly how to set it up on iPhone.
Prerequisites
- iPhone XS or later
- iOS 16 or later (recommended)
- Carrier-unlocked iPhone
- Your eSIM QR code ready
Step 1: Install the eSIM
Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code. Point your camera at the QR code. Follow the prompts to install the eSIM profile.
Step 2: Label Your Lines
iPhone will ask you to label each line. We recommend: Primary (your physical SIM) and Travel (your eSIM). This makes it easy to identify which line is which.
Step 3: Set Data Line
Go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data. Select your eSIM (Travel) as the data line. This ensures all internet traffic goes through your affordable eSIM data plan.
Step 4: Enable Data Roaming
Tap on your eSIM line → Enable Data Roaming. This is necessary for the eSIM to connect to local networks abroad.
Step 5: Activate at Destination
When you arrive, your eSIM will automatically connect to a local network. You may need to restart your phone if it does not connect within a few minutes.
